Ok, so this is our empty entertainment shelf. We did have our TV up there, but we got tired of looking up all the time. So, we put the TV on a console table and rearranged the furniture a bit (with Mom Pat's help, thanks Mom Pat!).
So, what should I do with this empty hole? I need your opinion to help me decide!!!! Here's what I thought of. (ps: that white shelf up there comes out easily)
(1.) I could put a big picture up there. But I've looked and looked and I haven't been able to find a picture that fits (covers up the entire hole), much less one that fits and I actually like it.
(2.) I could put molding around the edge of the hole and put a big flower arrangement up there.
(3.) I could put molding around the edge of the hole and then add doors. (Then I could decorate the mantle.) Maybe doors that fold in half so that when we sell the house one day - someone could put a tv up there and leave the doors open, and folded against the wall. Does that make sence? But what color doors? White like our trim, or gold like our walls to blend in.
Please leave your thoughts and ideas in the comment area below. (just click on comments) Thanks for helping me decide!

A picture would look good if you could find one that worked. I think my vote would be a mirror. One that is hung on the wall or one that is just resting on the mantle. It would make the room appear to be larger and you could still put a few decor items up there as well. I know that Tuesday Morning, Walmart, Kohl's, Target, and BB&B all carry large mirrors. My second choice would be to take out the shelf and put in a large faux flower arrangement. Even one that might have bamboo and sticks if you are not into flowers as much. I have seen a house that put a vase with flowers in an opening like that one and it looked good. I will let you know if I come up with anything else. :)
